Deep Fried Eggs

Last week Jessica, at The Novice Chef, wrote about a fried egg. You are all thinking yeah, yeah big freaking deal I can go to Waffle House any minute of the day (literally) and get a fried egg, big deal. But NO, this is not a fried egg like you are thinking this egg is soft boiled, cooled & peeled, breaded & DEEP FRIED! Yeah that’s right deep fried. I commented on her post and said my wedding is in however many days so I will have this immediately after that since I am trying to eat healthy. Well Yeah Right…I made it all the way to Saturday, a solid 5 days after I wrote that. Will power – not so much. Worth it – totally! Breakfast was complete with sausage patties and hashbrowns, completely off the healthy train (however incredibly delicious). But, the meal did keep me full until dinner time so maybe that sort of cancels out…and a word to the wise, recruit a sous chef to help peel the eggs, it is nice to have the extra set of hands!

Lainey

Deep Fried Eggs
4 Eggs
2 tlbs Flour (seasoned with salt and pepper)
1 Beaten Egg
¼ C Panko Breadcrumbs
¼ C Grated Parm Cheese
Frying Oil (I like peanut)

Soft boil the eggs by submerging them in boiling water. I did mine for 4 minutes and 30 seconds because I like a runny yolk, but if you like it a little harder go for 5 to 6. After boiling immediately put the eggs in a bowl of ice water to cool and stop the cooking process. In the mean time preheat your oil and prepare your breading stations by cracking 1 egg in a small bowl and beating it, mix flour and seasoning in another bowl, and the breadcrumbs and cheese in yet another bowl. After the eggs have cooled for about 10 minutes, carefully peel them. Bread the eggs by rolling first in the flour, then the egg and then the breadcrumb/cheese mixture. Drop the coated eggs into the hot oil for about 45 seconds, until the breading is a perfect golden brown. Enjoy – on top of hashbrowns, or a salad, or by itself…the possibilities are endless!

Thanks Jessica for this awesome idea!

  1. Oh.My.Gosh!!!! These look amazing. And there is totally a ton of protein in there so it's not "totally" off the healthy train =) (hah yeah right!) I think I have to try this...

  3. These sound a lot like Scotch Eggs, except Scotch Eggs are wrapped in sausage and THEN fried.
